Get To Know Lantana

Are you looking for a beautiful heat-loving shrub that
produces stunning blooms all summer long? If so, lantana might be your garden's
next superstar. Their brightly colored pincushion flowers are irresistible to butterflies and hummingbirds. Choose from a variety of different colors.

Lantana Characteristics and Care

  • Mature height can range from 2"-12" tall and wide depending on the variety.
  • Pincushion flower blooms usually in early spring and will continue blooming into late fall. Leaves behind small berries which are toxic to animals. 'Bloomify' varieties don't produce berries.
  • Available in many different colors including red, orange, lilac, white, and mixed variegation.
  • Compact shrub and trailing varieties available.
  • While newly planted lantana require frequent watering, they become relatively low water once established.
  • Provide a minimum of 4-6 hours of direct sun per day. Lantana like the heat and will flourish with warmer temps.
  • Prune in spring before new growth begins, trim mid-season to encourage reblooming.

Reasons To Be Loco About Lantana

  • Pollinators can't get enough of it! With a steady supply of blooms up until fall, butterflies, moths, and hummingbirds will be frequent visitors to your garden.
  • Heat and droughts don't faze lantana. This hardy plant is perfect for handling our hot summers and requires low water once established.
  • Lantana comes in almost every color of the rainbow!
  • Due to lantana being a low-growing shrub, it works perfectly in containers where it will spill over effortlessly.

Keeping Your Lantana Healthy

  • Use a starter fertilizer formulated to develop strong roots and sturdy growth. Apply at the time of planting to jumpstart root growth for better water absorption.
  • Feed with a natural, organic all-purpose fertilizer. Use at the beginning of spring to encourage new growth and bud development.
