Rutabaga 'American Purple Top'

A root vegetable called Rutabaga or Swede produces 4"-6" edible roots with sweet, mellow flavor. Bake or roast in a root veggie medley, or mash just like a potato. Makes an excellent addition to hearty soups and stews.

Green Thumb Guide

Plant in enriched garden soil with good drainage early spring or late summer after danger of 100° weather has passed. Sow seeds at a 1/4" depth 6" apart in rows spaced 18"-24" apart. Feed about once a month with a vegetable fertilizer. Harvest when ready by gasping stems and pulling straight up.
