Evergreen. California native shrub is decorated with spear shaped, dark green leaves all year. Mid to late spring brings clusters of pure white, medium-sized flowers with bright yellow stamens. While this variety has smaller flowers, it produces more of them consistently longer into the season than the true species. Upright, formal habit is best used as a hedge, in borders, or within waterwise gardens.
Grows well in most soils with excellent drainage. Feed with a tree and shrub fertilizer in spring before new growth. Prune back after blooms to promote dense growth.
These characteristics apply to the greater Sacramento area and nearby regions.
