Keep the summer bounty coming: Continue harvesting your veggies while they’re still going strong. Stay ahead of pesky weeds with quick pull sessions and get some exercise! Don’t forget to treat your soil with regular amending to add soil biology and get it ready for your fall planting.
Mulch Like A Pro: Blanket your beds with mulch to lock in moisture and cool the roots during triple-digit days. Mulch keeps weeds down, too.
Hydration Rituals: Early morning watering = less evaporation + healthier roots. Bonus: the garden is peaceful then. Water when you are having your morning cup of joe (that's coffee, to you youngsters out there!).
Fresh mint surrounded by a healthy dose of mulch to cool roots and keep in moisture.
Kick off your fall harvest early: August is the perfect time to start planning for a cooler-season garden. Get your hands a little dirty and start seeds indoors for delicious fall favorites like broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, and colorful Swiss chard.
Need seeds? Be sure and explore our abundant selection from Botanical Interests and get growing!
Give your annuals a quick refresh: If your annuals that you planted earlier are looking a bit leggy or tired, give them a trim and a light fertilizing to perk them up. This little refresh will encourage lush new growth and blooms that keep the color coming right into fall.

World Honeybee Day Is August 16: Buzz into action to help celebrate and promote bees by planting a colorful, bee-friendly garden. Make bees buzz with joy by including Basil, Lavender, and Catmint.
Turn up the heat with bold blooms: Plant heat loving beauties like vinca, portulaca, pentas, coneflowers, and asters now for a garden that keeps the color coming. These tough, vibrant plants love the warmth and will keep things lively while cooler temps creep in.
