Selecting The Perfect Soil For Your Plants

The soils at our nurseries are created to completely support plants in pots and raised beds. All of our soils are locally sourced, and none contain bio-solids or construction waste. We are proud to say that all of our E.B. Stone™ Organics and G&B soil options are organically certified.

Our soils are best distinguished by their thickness and water-holding ability. Different plants require different soils for optimum growth, and we have something for every plant. As we go from lighter to thicker soils, there is also an increasing amount of microbes, ingredients, and nutrition.
Soil & Mulch Collection
The lightest and fastest draining soil is ideal for palms, citrus and houseplants: E.B. Stone™ Organics Cactus and Succulent Potting Mix. These plants like good drainage to avoid wet feet. This organic soil contains fir bark, lava rock, peat moss, sand and redwood compost, for optimal drainage.
Lava Rock in Soil
Lava rock minerals, and loosens soil, providing nutrients and steady drainage.
Veggies, herbs and many perennials and annuals rely on soil that holds water a little longer—not soggy. GreenAll® Natural & Organic Potting Soil is full, rich, and provides for more water retention. It contains fir bark, peat moss, composted mushroom soil, volcanic pumice, earthworm castings, bat guano, kelp and feather meal, and green sand for a healthy balance of water retention and drainage.
Fresh Peat Moss
Dried peat moss is added to hold on to nutrients and hang on to moisture for the plant to take as needed—good things for shallow roots.
We are proud to offer a new soil option from E.B. Stone: E.B. Stone™ Organics 420 Bhang. This perlite- and peat-free soil holds just the right amount of water and offers excellent drainage. It is an economical option for both indoor and outdoor plantings. This mix contains coir, pumice, rice hulls, feather, kelp and bone meal, and alfalfa.
Coir from Coconuts
Coir absorbs more water, faster than peat moss, and tends to be less acidic.
As we go to soil options that are richer, consider E.B. Stone™ Organics Raised Bed Potting Mix. This soil will provide ideal growing conditions for a full range plant stages, from seeds, to plant starts, to established, mature plants—especially flowers and veggies. It encourages strong root growth, while providing excellent drainage and just the right amount of water-holding ability. It includes important beneficial microbes, coir, compost, pumice, earthworm castings, aged chicken manure and mycorrhizae.
Roots in Soil
Mycorrhizae is a fungi that lives in the rootzone and helps to make nutrients available to the roots for uptake by the plant.
The richest, thickest soil we offer also contains the highest levels of organic fertilizers: E.B. Stone™ Organics Recipe 420 Potting Soil. Known for holding water the longest, making it ideal for deep-rooted plants requiring consistently moist soil. Recipe 420 is also formulated to help prevent several common fungal diseases of veggies and flowers.
Douglas Fir Bark
Fir bark has nutrient-holding capability and improves drainage, which can help to minimize fungal disease.
We also offer a full range of soils designed for plants with specific soil requirements. In addition to the cactus and succulent soil, we carry fast-draining soil for bonsai, a moisture release blend for African violets with peat moss, a course mix excellent for orchids, and pH-correct soil specially blended for azaleas and camellias.
