Green Thumb Guide

Plant in well draining, nitrogen enriched soil. Protect from frost in the first few years after planting. 'Bacon' is a Mexican variety of avocado and is a B-type with flowers blooming female in the morning, receptive to pollen in the afternoon, then reopen as males the next morning to shed the pollen. Plant with an A-type such as 'Hass' to ensure good production.

These characteristics apply to the greater Sacramento area and nearby regions.
